Health Alliance Plan: the plan changes that matter at your 2027 renewal.

HAP is now Health Alliance Plan by Henry Ford Health. In 2025 it announced Henry Ford Health Select, a new employer plan, and said older plans would be phased out by the end of 2026. If your group is on one of those plans, your renewal is not a simple continuation. This page sets out what HAP has said and the questions we ask.

What to know

What HAP has said about its employer plans

Henry Ford Health Select

HAP announced Henry Ford Health Select as a new health plan for individuals and for small and large employer groups, with coverage starting January 1, 2026.

How it is structured

HAP says the plan is an HMO and an Exclusive Provider Arrangement built on Henry Ford Health’s High-Performing Network.

Plans being phased out

HAP says Pivotal, Henry Ford Choice and Genesys Choice are being phased out by December 31, 2026.

Savings claim

HAP states the plan offers up to 15 percent savings on premium costs. That is the carrier’s claim and depends on the comparison; ask what it is measured against.

Network size

HAP states the plan gives access to Henry Ford Health and more than 9,400 affiliated providers, over 550 care sites and 13 acute care hospitals.

Referrals and geography

HAP says the plan requires primary care provider assignment and specialist referrals, and is available to employer groups in seven Michigan counties.

Renewal questions

Questions we ask before a HAP renewal

Is your group on a plan being retired?

If so, the renewal is a move, not a rate change. We identify which plan you are on and what replaces it.

Do your employees live in the service area?

A plan limited to certain counties is a poor fit for employees outside them. We map where your people live.

Who has to change doctors?

An exclusive provider network limits out-of-network coverage. We show who would be affected.

Is the savings claim real for your group?

We test any carrier savings figure against your own claims and enrollment before relying on it.

Questions We Get

HAP questions from Michigan employers

Is HAP still the same company?

HAP now presents itself as Health Alliance Plan by Henry Ford Health. Confirm the legal entity and plan names on your renewal paperwork.

What is Henry Ford Health Select?

HAP describes it as a new HMO and Exclusive Provider Arrangement employer plan built on Henry Ford Health’s High-Performing Network, with coverage starting January 1, 2026.

What happens if I am on Pivotal, Henry Ford Choice or Genesys Choice?

HAP has said those plans are being phased out by December 31, 2026, so ask your HAP representative in writing what your group moves to and on what terms.

Does an EPA cover out-of-network care?

Generally an Exclusive Provider Arrangement covers care inside its network except for emergencies. Confirm the details in the plan documents.

Can CFH quote HAP?

Yes. CFH can include HAP in a market test; availability depends on your size, county, funding and timing.
