HAP’s maternity program is delivered by ProgenyHealth for commercial members, so the employer’s plan type decides access.
HAP partners with ProgenyHealth on maternity care management for commercial and ASO HFH members, and adds tobacco and postpartum depression support.
What the program is and what members do.
Maternity care management
HAP says ProgenyHealth’s program is meant to support a healthy pregnancy and postpartum period. It lists learning resources, support programs, case management and a mobile app. A Nurse Care Manager supports members with learning, doctor visits and needs outside the plan, and a case manager line gives more access.
Tools and extras
HAP lists digital connection and ongoing learning through the Ovia Health mobile app, an OB-GYN search, free dental services during pregnancy, a health cost estimator, a doctor search for the baby, 24/7 telehealth and a free tracker for immunizations, well-child visits and growth. ProgenyHealth also works to identify high-risk members early.
Tobacco and postpartum support
HAP says pregnant members are eligible for an expanded nine-call tobacco cessation program through the Michigan Tobacco Quitline, with a dedicated female coach. HAP also runs a Postpartum Depression Screening Program, where its behavioral health team and ProgenyHealth identify members who may need support and connect them to care.
Eligibility, funding and plan design.
Who can use it
HAP’s population health page lists the Maternity Care Management Services Program as open to commercial and ASO HFH members, and the postpartum depression program as open to all members. Eligibility varies by plan type and funding, so a self-funded employer should confirm that its plan is covered.
How it is funded or sold
HAP presents the maternity program as part of member benefits and does not publish a price or an employer buy-up. For self-funded groups, a care management program may carry an administrative fee or change claims patterns. Ask HAP how it is charged and whether participation is opt-in or automatic.
Where it fits in a plan design
Maternity management addresses one of the larger and more predictable claim categories, including high-risk pregnancies and newborn care. It complements fertility and family-building benefits but does not replace them. HAP’s page does not describe fertility treatment coverage, which is a separate plan design decision.
What to settle before relying on it.
Is our plan type one of the eligible ones?
HAP names commercial and ASO HFH members for the ProgenyHealth program. Ask HAP to confirm in writing that your funding arrangement and plan qualify, and ask what happens for members on a different plan type within the same employer, since a mixed offering can leave some employees without it.
How are high-risk pregnancies and NICU risk handled?
ProgenyHealth is described as identifying high-risk factors early and supporting transitions. Ask what outreach actually happens, what share of members are reached, what results HAP reports at group level and whether any of it feeds stop-loss discussions for a self-funded group.
What is the privacy line for the employer?
Pregnancy data is sensitive. Ask what HAP and ProgenyHealth report to the employer, confirm it is group-level only, and make sure employee communications explain that the employer does not see individual information. Also confirm how the Ovia app handles data.
