UnitedHealthcare’s maternity and fertility programs guide members through care, but what the plan pays for is a separate question.
These programs add guidance, nurses and virtual support around pregnancy and family building. They do not decide what treatment the plan covers, and several depend on plan selections.
What the program is and what members do.
Digital maternity support and doulas
UnitedHealthcare describes digital maternity support with videos, tailored information and tips from getting ready for pregnancy to caring for a newborn. Doula services add nonmedical support during pregnancy, birth and recovery. Where a plan offers Doula Support, members can use a doula in person or virtually, and coverage may be a set number of visits or a reimbursement allowance.
Fertility Solutions
Fertility Solutions lets members talk with a fertility nurse about their care and plan benefits, find a Fertility Center of Excellence with skilled fertility doctors, and get information and emotional support online. UnitedHealthcare says some employer plans offer Fertility Solutions Plus, which adds a Maven Care Advocate and online access to Maven tools.
Maven and NICU support
Maven is a virtual clinic for pregnancy, postpartum and newborn support. UnitedHealthcare says it includes a dedicated Care Advocate and virtual appointments across more than 35 specialties, including doulas, lactation consultants and infant sleep coaches. Neonatal Resource Services is led by NICU nurses and social workers and supports families for up to a year after the baby leaves the hospital.
Eligibility, funding and plan design.
Who can use it
UnitedHealthcare says members with employer-sponsored plans may have access to these programs at no additional cost, and tells members to check their specific plan. Several are described with conditions, such as Doula Support only where the plan offers it and Fertility Solutions Plus only on some plans. Availability varies by plan and by employer selection.
How it is sold
The pages reviewed give no pricing. The way they describe Fertility Solutions Plus as available on some employer plans suggests the Maven tier is a plan-level choice rather than a universal feature. Ask whether the group’s quote includes standard Fertility Solutions or the Plus version, and what each adds to the premium or administrative fee.
Where it fits in plan design
These programs are navigation and support layered on a medical benefit. Whether treatments such as fertility care, donor services, surrogacy or adoption support are covered is set by plan design and its limits, not by the program. UnitedHealthcare says members may be eligible for treatment, so the plan document is what controls the answer.
What to settle before relying on it.
Does the plan cover fertility treatment, and with what limits?
Ask for the covered services, any lifetime or per-cycle maximums, prior authorization rules and whether treatment must be at a Center of Excellence. The program helps members find care, but employees will measure the benefit by what the plan pays. Get the treatment coverage in writing.
Is the group on standard Fertility Solutions or the Plus tier with Maven?
Confirm which version is included, what Maven access covers for spouses or partners, and whether it extends beyond pregnancy to postpartum and newborn support. If the Plus tier is an add-on, ask for its price and compare it with using a standalone family-building vendor.
How is doula support covered?
Ask whether the plan provides a set number of visits or a reimbursement allowance, whether the doula must be in the carrier’s network, and what members pay. UnitedHealthcare says that where offered members can usually choose from a broad range of doulas regardless of network, so confirm that applies to this plan.
Common questions about this program.
Is Maven included in the plan?
UnitedHealthcare says members can use Maven at no added cost through their health plan where it is available. Fertility Solutions Plus, which adds a Maven Care Advocate and tools, is offered on some employer plans, so ask which applies.
Does Fertility Solutions pay for treatment?
UnitedHealthcare describes it as nurse guidance, Center of Excellence access and online support. Whether treatment is covered depends on the benefit plan, so ask for the covered services and limits.
Who can use Neonatal Resource Services?
UnitedHealthcare says the program helps babies who need special care and supports families before, during and after a high-risk birth, for up to one year after the baby leaves the hospital, where the health plan includes it.
