Check 2

Check your waiver rate before open enrollment starts.

The share of eligible employees who decline your plan is one of the clearest signals of whether your contribution strategy is working. With marketplace prices rising, a waiver can cost an employee more than it did last year.

A short count now gives you something concrete to bring to your renewal. Send us your renewal and we will give you a second opinion in writing.

What to know

Three numbers to pull.

Waivers by tier

Count how many eligible employees waived, split by employee-only and by family tiers. A cluster in the family tiers usually points to dependent cost.

Reasons given

If the enrollment system records a reason, group them: other coverage, cost, or no reason. Cost is the one you can influence.

What the employee share looks like

Compare each tier’s employee contribution with your waiver counts. If employees waive at higher contributions, model how a different employer share would change take-up.
