Get your renewal early and read it against the Michigan averages.
The earlier you see the renewal, the more options you have. DIFS approved a 9.6% statewide small-group average for 2027, with carriers between 7.0% and 14.8%, and your own number can sit anywhere around that range.
Marketplace increases are in the news, but your renewal is priced in a separate pool and should be read on its own terms. Send us your renewal and we will give you a second opinion in writing.
Three steps to take when the letter arrives.
Ask for it as soon as it exists
Ask your carrier or broker for the renewal as early as they can release it, and ask for the plan-level rates, not only the headline percentage.
Compare it with the state numbers
See the carrier-by-carrier table for what DIFS approved, then ask why yours is above or below your carrier’s average.
Check the census
Stale census data is a common reason a renewal runs high. Make sure the enrolled counts by tier match your current payroll before you respond.
